MATERIALS: (makes 5 to 6 ornaments)
Bedspread weight crochet cotton: 1 large ball
steel crochet hook size 7 (1.25mm) or size needed for gauge
tapestry needle
1/8" ribbon=1 yd
1/4" ribbon= 2 yds
2 1/2" balls
straight pins.

GAUGE: Rnds 1-5 = 1 1/2"

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 9 sc in second ch from hook; join with slip st to first sc. (9sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each sc around; join with slip st to first hdc. (18 hdc)
Rnd 3 (Front Petals): Working in Front Loops Only, *(ch 1, dc) twice in next 2 hdc, ch 1, slip st in next hdc (Petal made); repeat from * around, ending last repeat with slip st in first st. (6 Petals)
Rnd 4: Working in Back Loops Only of Rnd 2, ch 1, slip st in first hdc, ch 1, 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next 2 hdc, * 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc , in next 2 hdc, repeat from * around, join with slip st to first hdc. (24 hdc)
Rnd 5: (Back Petals): Working in Front Loops Only, *(ch 1, dc) twice in next 3 hdc, ch 1, slip st in next hdc (Petal made), repeat from *around, ending last repeat with slip st in first st. (6 Petals)
Rnd 6: Working in Back Loops Only of Rnd 4, ch 1, sc in first hdc, * ch5, skip next hdc, sc in next hdc, repeat from * around, ch 2, dc in first sc to complete last loop. (12 Loops)
Rnds 7-14: Ch 1, sc in same loop *[ch 3, slip st in same sc(Picot made)], ch 5, sc in next loop, repeat from * around, work picot, ch 2, dc in first sc to complete last loop.
Rnd 15: Ch 1, sc in same loop, * ch 9, sc in next loop, repeat from * around, ch 5, tr in first sc to complete last loop, finish off leaving a 12" end for sewing.

RUFFLE: Working in loops of Rnd 10, join thread with sc to the right of any Picot in Rnd 11.
Rnd 1: * Ch 5, sc in same loop (to the left of Picot in Rnd 11), ch 5, sc in next loop (to the right of next Picot in Rnd 11), repeat from * around, ch 2, dc in first sc to complete last loop. (24 loops)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same loop, * work Picot, ch 5, slip st in fourth ch from hook, ch 2, sc in next loop, repeat from * around, ending last repeat with slip st in first sc. finish off.
ASSEMBLY: Weave end through center chain of each loop of last round, then draw through center chain of first loop, insert ball and pull end tightly to close, finish off.

FINISHING: Cut a 27" length of 1/4" ribbon, weave it through loops of Ruffle (Rnd 1) and tie in a bow; trim ends. Hanging Loop - Cut a 6" length of 1/8" ribbon and overlap ends to form a loop. Stick pin through ends and into top of ball at an angle behind bow.
