INSTRUCTIONS:
Cut around each plastic ring, resulting in 6 rings. Rough edges should be cut to form nice circles. It is not necessary that they be even all the way around.
With G hook and using mc, ch 5, slip st to form ring. Ch 3, make 17 dc in ring. Sl st to top of ch 3, ch 1, make 1 sc in every st around.
Fasten off. Place a plastic ring around outer edge of circle and attach cc, work in back loop of center ch 3, make 1 dc over the plastic and into the same st as ch 3.
Make 2 dc over the plastic and in every st around the center circle. Fasten off for coaster. Attach cc and make a reverse sc around (pie crust).
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
NOTE: Pie Crust is a sc made by going in the st behind the hook instead of in front of it.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Cut around each plastic ring dividing each into 6 rings. It is not necessary that the rings be even all the way around. Make sure there are no rough edges.
Dc around rings. Make 3 rings in mc and 3 rings in cc color.
NOTE: It takes 6 rings to make mat. If you want, each ring can be a different color.
With cc yarn make a ch that will just fit around 1 ring. Dc across row, leave a 6" tail for sewing the two ends together later on.
Now lay finished rings in straight line, overlapping each other. Alternate colors and make sure the right sides are all facing up. Weave the crocheted chain through the circles over and under each ring. Makes sure they are woven securely. Pull up ends and sew together with needle and yarn left at end of chain to form a center circle.
Pull all circles out and flatten down. With cc sc around the outside of all six rings, make sure to catch all stitches on both rings where they overlap. If desired make a pie crust around holder.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Divide the six rings. Dc around each ring. They should be filled solid and must lay flat and even. Fasten off, weave in ends.
For LARGE MAT; make 14 rings in one color, 13 rings in a cc. Using 11 of each color, lay finished ring in an oval line overlapping each one. Alternate colors, making sure that the right sides are up. With cc make a chain that will just fit around the center of all the rings and just meet. Dc into every ch across. Leave a piece of yarn at end to adjust work if needed. Fasten off.
Weave the crocheted chain through the circles going under and over each ring. Before sewing end. put a safety pin through the two ends to hold work together. Pull all rings out and flatten down. Adjust to desired shape. Sew the two ends together. Weave in ends.
NOTE: These 22 rings make up the OUTER RING. At this point, there is an opening in the center of the mat. The 5 remaining rings will be placed in that opening. They will be the CENTER of the mat.
Now, take the five remaining rings, starting with a mc ring, lay out the rings overlapping the each ring, and alternating colors each time. Make sure the right sides are up. Make a ch 1/2" longer at both ends of the five rings. Dc in every chain across, leaving a sewing end.
Weave the crocheted chain through the five circles. Sew in back of circles on each side of outer ring. Sew outer ring to center rings, all around the center.
With cc, sc around outside of all 22 rings. Make sure to catch all stitches on both rings where they overlap. Make a reverse sc (pie crust) all around the outside of mat.
For MEDIUM MAT; Dc around 12 rings, six in each color.
Make one ring using the coaster pattern (above) without the pie crust edging for center of mat.
Follow pattern for long mat, using the six rings of each color. Overlap each ring, alternating colors. Measure around mat and make a chain to fit the center circle. Dc across row.
Weave the crocheted chain through the circles going under and over each ring. Sew coaster to center of mat. Finish outer edge same as long mat.
