NOTE: This pattern is my variation of a design, used
to make lady's slippers.
To enlarge or shrink the size, add or subtract
stitches or change hook sizes, to accommodate
your dog's measurements.
The picture shows the 'model' wearing the serape` tied
just below her 'neck'. She was excited and 'anxious'
about getting her picture taken, so she didn't want
to sit still for the final adjustments. What can I say?
She's a 'model'!! 8~}
Ch 54 (48 for length plus 6 to form loop at neck)
Row 1: Sk first 6 ch (loop) sc in ea remaining 48 ch. Ch 1 turn.
NOTE: All remaining rows are crocheted in back loop only.
Row 2: (Back loop only) sc in ea stitch to end of row. Ch 6 turn.
Row 3: Sk 6 chs, sc in ea stitch across to end of row. Ch 1 turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you reach the desired width. End with row 3 and fasten off.
Take ribbon and run it through the loops at neck,
being sure to leave enough to tie into a bow.
Place it on the dog and decide if and where you would like
the second tie or velcro closure.
If a ribbon tie is used, I found it easiest to cut ribbon
twice the desired length, then fold in half, place crochet
hook through stitch at desired ribbon placement, place folded
ribbon over hook then pull ribbon loop through stitch.
Then pull both ends of the ribbon through the
ribbon loop, thus 'knotting' the ribbon in place.
Repeat this process on other side of opening,
directly across from this one. Now you can tie either 2
separate bows here or tie into a single bow.
If you are going to tie into a single bow,
I suggest that you knot the ends of the ribbon on each side together.
Or you can knot and stitch the ribbon so that you only have
1 strand of ribbon on each side at this point;
or use velco for this mid section closure,
the choice is yours.
MY NOTES: I have made and used these on my 'little' dogs
during the cold season for those quick dashes outside
to answer 'mother nature's call'.
It's just enough to keep the little guys warm while doing their duty. 8~}
They're quick and easy to make so if you happen to have a dog
that seems to always be cold, (I have 3 chihuahuas, always cold)
they can even wear them indoors.
When indoors, the mid ribbon can be tied up over the back
instead of around the dog's belly, if desired.
